Wonderful sunset in Frankfurt

Frankfurt, October 2015

This crew pairing comprised one night in Copenhagen and two nights in Frankfurt. Although Copenhagen is one of my favorite cities in Europe, I spent most of the time of this quick night stop sleeping.

On the other hand, the day at Frankfurt was very well spent including this visit to the Bethmann Park which features this Chinesischer Garten:

At the end of the day, we went to our hotel's rooftop (which sadly closed recently due to the insolvency of the Revo Hospitality Group). On the rooftop, we witnessed a wonderful sunset...

Next day, arriving at Lisbon, we parked side by side with this Maltese Boeing 737-400 (9H-VLA) of Valorfly. This airline is not active anymore.

Spotting @ Frankfurt am Main Int'l

Airport action, March 2026

It's always nice to have a few minutes of a turnaround to check the traffic at Frankfurt Airport. This was my first time seeing the new centennial livery of Lufthansa, in this case, painted on a Dreamliner. The old Boeing 747-400 is also an eye candy.

What's amazing on this Lufthansa commemorative livery is that the aircraft wings are actually also the wings of the crane painted on the fuselage, since the upper surface of the wings is also painted in white. This feature is easily visible when you are able to see the aircraft from a higher level.

Parked on our side was this conspicuous Condor A321ceo.

Arriving in Lisboa coming from Frankturt, this vintage Star Air 767-200 was our neighbor on the tarmac. Seen from the A320ceo CS-TNX, Malangatana.

Frankfurt, nothing new but always nice

Frankfurt, July 2025

From a tourist's point of view, Frankfurt is not the most appealing city to explore. I did a very similar stroll to this one in 2010 and back then I took much more detailed photos than those I'm showing today. I'll share those 2010 photos later, I promise!

I've also been to Frankfurt September. That layover we just went to the Römerberg to have lunch ending the day at Orange Beach, a beer garden, to watch the sunset by the river.

But let's finally dive into what I saw on this July's layover! The weather was cloudy, muggy but hot! Tt didn't rain although you could bet it would at any time.

This shopping mall always get my attention because of the glass "tornado" that continues towards of the inside of the mall.

Römerberg

This square in the old town (Altstadt) is iconic and probably the most visited spot in Frankfurt.

Domturm

Many years ago I visited the associated museum Dommuseum and I remember seeing a photo of the Dome still standing (although severely damaged) after the WWII bombardments.

I ended my visit walking alongside the river Main.

Tenerife Sur Reina Sofia Airport & Frankfurt Int'l

Tenerife & Frankfurt, January 2025

First time I landed in one of the Canary Islands was in 2008 when I was still flying the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar for a charter airline. It was a Charles de Gaulle - Fuerteventura flight for XL Airways France.
In 2019, I went to visit Gran Canaria (Las Palmas).
And recently, I had a turnaround flight to Tenerife South for the first time! Many interesting aircraft there, including this A321 with Condor's striking livery, and the A320neo of Brussels Airlines with the special Tomorrowland livery.

Next day I did a regular turnaround flight to Frankfurt. And just like this, a new year begins.
Welcome 2025!

Yesterday, another roundtrip to Frankfurt and guess who was on strike...

And now a couple of photos taken in the "Kingdom of Lufthansa".

Nice layover in Frankfurt

Frankfurt, May 2013

Before going to Frankfurt we had a night stop Barcelona. One photo of TAP's main hangar before departure to BCN,

LIS - Hangar 6

and another one when we arrived back in Lisbon as dead head crew in a PGA's Embraer 145 (CS-TPJ).

Then it was time to fly to Frankfurt!

Saturday morning, I decided to go for a walk... The day started with rain but the weather improved greatly later.

First couple of photos near Messe Frankfurt where our hotel is located,

and then a stroll alongside the Main River...

The contrast of green and grey

Going to the very centre of the city, I found a nice outdoor with a classic Junkers Ju 52.

The famous MyZeil mall...

Nice glass construction!

Seen from inside...

Inside the mall, Saturn was the most interesting store for me.

Saturn

I had lunch in a McDonald's nearby the mall.

Another interesting outdoor...

Boeing 707

And no doubt Frankfurt Airport is a big european hub. You can evaluate that by the great number of airlines present in the city.

China Eastern, Yemen, Vietnam...

... Japan Airlines

And while going back to the hotel...
