Barcelona & Malpensa Airport

Barcelona, February 2024

Just a quick post to show a couple of photos I took in Barcelona, last February: the Sagrada Família seen from my hotel and a nice close-up of Torre Glòries at night, located in the Poblenou neighbourhood.

Before going to Barcelona, and part of the same flight pairing, we did a turnaround flight to Milan - Malpensa:

Flying with Portugália Airlines

Lately, I've been flying a lot on this small airplane - the Embraer 145. From a passenger point of view, the Embraer 145 is a nice airplane if the flight time does not extend too much. For a 1:40 flight like this one, it's still OK. The small bins of this Embraer mean that many cabin trolleys don't fit inside them and have to go as carry on baggage in the bulk with a "Delivery at Aircraft" tag.

We departed with a clear day, providing a great view over El Prat airport after the typical sharp left turn when departing from runway 25L.

And now, some Spanish landscapes after reaching cruise altitude...

Halfway to Lisbon, it's usual to pass abeam Madrid Barajas airport.

Such a huge airport!

And the final approach over beautiful Lisboa...

After landing, and on our way to the parking ramp, a nice view of one of TAP's flagships.

And finally, a beautiful Falcon 7X which unfortunately recently had a ramp incident, in Lisbon Airport.

I still have to find the magic of Barcelona

Barcelona, November 2009

Everybody seems to love this city. But I find many other cities in Europe much more enjoyable than Barcelona. I even prefer Madrid which is distant from the sea and doesn't even have a decent river crossing it.

In Barcelona, I already walked through Las Ramblas, Gothic Quarter, Plaça de Catalunya and other interesting spots. I already saw Sagrada Familia and I had a nice party night at Shoko Club, near the beach, in summer time. The tapas at Ciudad Condal Restaurant are really divine. But I still can't say "this is one of my favorite cities worldwide". Maybe I should visit Camp Nou!
However I have good memories from the first time I was in Barcelona flying with Luzair.

I usually stay in a hotel in Avinguda del Paral·lel which is near of Plaça de la Carbonera and Maremagnum shopping center.

Now, some photos of Barcelona - not the best ones and not the most interesting places you can find there... I really have few pictures of it.

A nossa SOS Airways!
And suddenly a cruise ship ran aground in Turkey... About 1000 passengers were evacuated and had their holidays ruined. Among them there were 121 Portuguese tourists. And how do they return home? By plane! And who has an aircraft available for these type of occurrences? Our 'SOS Airways', of course!

So we took off from Lisbon, flying for Pullmantur Air, without passengers and towards Izmir (ADB).

A position flight means that I can fully enjoy 'my' L-1011!

In Izmir we boarded the unfortunate tourists and took them to Barcelona. It was a surprisingly calm flight despite what happened to our passengers which had enough reasons to be very angry! Our crew stayed for a night in TRYP Barcelona Aeropuerto Hotel and we deadhead the next day to Lisbon, flying with TAP.

With this mission, I completed my 100th landing at Luzair service: 82 with our L-1011 and the rest deadheading with other airlines.
