In Fujairah
Last 5th March, I was assigned for a troops transport flight between Lisbon and Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE. The soldiers came from Canada and our L-1011 had to do a technical stop in Lisbon for refueling and change of crew.

When we arrived at the airplane, which was parked on the military apron (Figo Maduro), we had the good news that we only had 36 passengers on board! And our crew was augmented by 25% to comply with the FDP regulations! In fact, it was inside the holds that our main payload was carried...
The flight, as expected, was very calm. The soldiers mostly wanted to sleep because they would be transferred directly to another plane upon arrival. After two legs with our L-1011, a military C-17 Globemaster would be waiting for them.
This is a photo of one of the many inhospitable places that we overflew on our way to Minhad:
Because Minhad is just an Air Base, we did a very short position-flight with our L-1011 to Fujairah, which lays about 120 km away from there.
Fujairah Intl Airport is a true living museum of aviation! If it was not for the presence of the Hifly A330 and the A320 of a Bulgarian airlines, one could say that our 25 year-old TriStar 500 was the most advanced airplane in that airport!
Beside a nice collection of 707s, DC-8s and other L-1011s parked there, we could spot many soviet made aircraft, including the massive IL-76s!
Here is the view from my hotel room in the 10th floor, with the airport in the far distance...

And now, some relics I saw in Fujairah airport, the next day:
Finally we arrived next to our plane.
And the other L-1011s nearby:

We took off heading again towards Minhad where we would receive more soldiers on board and their military equipment. This time, the cabin was quite complete and we would have an intermediate stop in Paphos (Cyprus) were some of the soldiers alighted.
